Staying independent while in a relationship can be difficult as you two are also learning how to co-exist and work as a supportive unit. Bustle has figured out when becoming more like your partner can be a good thing.

Dr. Danielle Forshee, a doctor of psychology, explains the difficulty of achieving a balance with your partner because "when we are in a relationship, it is important to have a sense of self and independence, while integrating lives with your partner."

While there are couples out there that we all know who have become a single entity instead of two separate people in a relationship together, there are times when that is not the best idea, but other times when that works for them!

Studies have found that people who have felt more "merged" with their partner tended to be happier and displayed healthier relationship behaviors. So while it can be difficult sometimes to find a balance in your relationship, it is important that both you and your partner feel valued and heard by the other.
