Water Line Break Closes Court Street in Downtown Binghamton
A section of Court Street in downtown Binghamton has been shut down because of a water line problem.
The apparent break was reported early Wednesday morning.
City workers and employees of Albert Torto Construction Corporation were dispatched to locate the source of the problem.
Court Street was closed to vehicular traffic between the roundabout and State Street.
Crews used heavy equipment to excavate part of the roadway just west of Collier Street.
No business or residential customers were reported without water.
City officials Wednesday afternoon said the trouble was traced to an abandoned water suppression line leading to a building at 73 Court Street.
Water from that line had been entering the structure's basement over the past couple of weeks.
Crews were in the process of plugging and capping the line. The work was expected to be completed by the end of the day.
This story was updated to reflect the source of the problem had been found and repairs were underway.
