Watches and Warnings for Snow in Region

The National Weather Service  has issued a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 Saturday morning for some areas but a Winter Storm Warning for other parts of the Twin Tiers.

Forecasters say the snowfall totals for areas like Broome, Tioga and Tompkins County in New York and Susquehanna and Bradford Counties in Pennsylvania could come in at 3 to 7 inches in elevations above 14-hundred feet, and 1 to 4 inches at lower elevations.

A Winter Storm Warning, however is in effect until 8 Saturday morning for Delaware, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Oneida and Madison Counties in New York and Northern Wayne County in Pennsylvania.For the warning area, heavy snow with accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are projected in the higher elevations and 3 to 6 inches at lower  elevations. Winds for the entire region could gust up to 40 miles per hour through Friday night.

The National Weather service was expecting wet snow to develop in the morning, mainly at higher elevations with a lull midday with light mixed rain and snow. New snow and blowing snow was being forecast for late afternoon and through the night.

Officials caution travel could be difficult at times, especially at higher elevations. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce  visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
