My husband celebrated a milestone birthday recently and to celebrate, our little family packed our bags and visited a hotel out of town where we indulged in things we don't often indulge in such as eating junk food and swimming.

From the time he was a baby, I've called my son my little "water baby." John takes to water like a fish and would spend hours splashing around if we let him. It seems that a bunch of parents had the same idea we did to get out of the house, get away, and go someplace where the kids could burn off energy because our hotel was filled with kids who were super excited to be swimming.

My little guy couldn't figure out why I wouldn't let him do a belly flop. His three-year-old self gave me big puppy dog eyes and pleaded, "But pleeeeeease, mama?" Do you know how hard it is to explain to a toddler why he can't do something that all the other kids are doing? The pout on John's face told me that he's counting down the days until he's big enough to flop himself into a pool just as the bigger kids were doing.

I remember spending summers by the pool when I was a kid and doing a belly flop was most definitely a rite of passage. The kid who produced the biggest splash was looked upon with awe by all of the other kids.

I admit that I never really ever wondered what a belly flop looked like in slow-motion until I saw this video, and now I can't stop watching it. The Slow Mo Guys have a YouTube channel where they show what different things look like when done in slow motion including this one of a guy belly-flopping into a pool. This looks painful, but also so cool!
