Construction is moving forward on a new sports facility in the town of Vestal.

The 434 Sportsplex is being built just east of Chuckster's Family Fun Park on the Vestal Parkway.

SUNY Broome Community College soccer coach Chris Riley had hoped the facility could open in November. But, he said, construction was delayed a few weeks. He said things were held up because of delays with receiving some needed material.

Riley said he's excited now that cranes are on the site and large beams for the metal building are being put into place.

The structure will have more than 53,000 square feet of space. The facility will have athletic fields, batting cages and a fitness center. The fields would be used for soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball.

Riley said he doesn't have a specific target date in mind for the complex to go into operation but he hopes it can be open by the end of January.
