Endicott police and other law enforcement agencies searched Union-Endicott High School after an intruder entered the building on East Main Street.

According to WBNG 12 News, Police Chief Patrick Garey said the school was placed on lockdown following the incident early Wednesday afternoon.

Garey said the suspected intruder was being detained and another person was being questioned.

The lockdown began around 12:20 p.m. The status at the school was changed to "shelter in place" about an hour later.

Endicott police were assisted by officers from other local agencies in assessing the situation. The high school grounds and the interior of the building were searched.

Some students indicated they had been told a gun had been brought inside the school. Police would not comment on whether any weapons were involved in the incident.

Normal operations resumed at the school around 2 p.m.
