Two Massive Endicott Eyesores to Be Demolished

A pair of problem properties in the village of Endicott are to be cleared to create "shovel-ready" sites for redevelopment projects.

The village has been awarded $1 million in state funding through the New York Communities Initiative.

The money will be used to pay for the demolition of the old Endicott Inn at 214 Washington Avenue and the former Endicott Plaza off Vestal Avenue.

Endicott officials have been working to deal with the two eyesores for years.

The Endicott Inn, which is located just a few yards north of Union-Endicott High School, remains open. An employee at the business declined to comment about the motel on Friday.

The property has kept village police busy in the last few years with disturbances and drug arrests. Police chief Patrick Garey recently said the number of calls to the motel had dropped.

The Kmart store in the Endicott Plaza sustained heavy flood damage in September 2011. Kmart initially announced it planned to reoccupy the site but ultimately decided against reopening the store.
