Construction continues to progress on the Prospect Mountain Project involving routes 17 and 81 through Binghamton.  New York State Department of Transportation Regional Director Jack Williams earlier this week said that  25 percent of Phase II of the Prospect Mountain Project is complete.  He also advised media members that there are new traffic patterns now in effect and more on the way.

Recently a temporary bridge has been put into place diverting traffic to the north of an existing viaduct that spans Route 7, railroad tracks and Broad Avenue.  The temporary bridge moves traffic on 81 North and 17 West to the north of the existing structure.

After traffic crosses the temporary bridge it will then be joined together again until it splits to 81 North and 17 West.  The plan is to use temporary bridge work to do a similar shift for traffic flowing on 81 South and 17 East.  Once these shifts are in place demolition work on the existing bridge will take place.
