Just this morning, I received a question about helping area children for the holidays now that the season is pretty much here, given that holiday lights are going up on some homes, decorations are now being sold in areas stores and just today I saw a truck filled with freshly cut Christmas trees headed to its destination.

Well, The Binghamton Police Departments Facebook page has listed a press release about the 2020 Broome County Toys for Tots program. The program has been operated by Broome County police agencies since 1962, and will continue this season.

The Binghamton Police Department Facebook page press release mentions that the program for Toys for Tots will begin on Monday November 30th through Saturday December 12th, with headquarters in the Oakdale Mall, Johnson City near the former Macy's department store.

Given all that we've been through in 2020 with the pandemic, I can only guess that the need will be bigger than ever, especially with so many job losses due to furloughs, layoffs, illness and other unforeseen hardships.

The Broome County Toys for Tots needs your help with toy donations. You can drop off any toy donations in barrels that will be available at area village, town and city police agencies in Binghamton, Johnson City, Vestal and Endicott.

For those who will need toys, there are some requirements such as being a resident of Broome County, show photo identification and provide birth certificates for all children you are requesting toys for, among others. Toys distributed will be for children between the ages to 1 to 10.
