Local law enforcement officers and other volunteers are preparing for the annual Toys for Tots drive in the Binghamton area.

The Unions of Broome County Police agencies and volunteers have been collecting toys for area children since 1962.

Residents who have not signed up at the Salvation Army or Catholic Charities can register starting November 27 at the Toys for Tots headquarters at 560 Harry L. Drive in Johnson City.

Those signing up must be a Broome County resident providing proof of address, provide a birth certificate for each child, show custody documents if not the child’s parent and show photo identification.  The program is for children ages one to 10.

Starting next Monday and ending Saturday, December 9th, the Broome County Toys for Tots headquarters will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon.  Donations can be dropped off during the hours of operation through December 22nd.  Barrels are also located at the Binghamton Police Department, Broome County Sheriff’s office and the Endicott, Johnson City and Vestal Police Departments.
