Student Housing Planned at Former Binghamton Store Site
A developer wants to convert a vacant three-story building in Binghamton's First Ward into an apartment complex.
The structure at 92 Glenwood Avenue was used as retail space by Warehouse Carpet Outlets for more than three decades.
Isaac Anzaroot is seeking city approval of plans to use the building for student housing. An entity controlled by Anzaroot acquired the site for $50,000 last June.
The conversion plan calls for 14 residential units with a total of 19 bedrooms.
Anzaroot was not available to discuss the project.
The Zoning Board of Appeals has scheduled a public hearing on an application for a variance that would allow the project to be developed with fewer parking spaces than called for under city guidelines.
According to a sign posted at the site, the hearing is to be held June 3 at 5:20 p.m. in the City Council chamber.
