Stamp out Hunger in Broome County This Saturday

This Saturday, May 11th, is the second Saturday of the month and that means it's time for the national Stamp Out Hunger campaign.

Mail carriers in Broome County will not only be delivering mail to your home this Saturday, but they will pick up non-perishable food items that you leave outside to be donated to CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse).

You may find a bag from CHOW in your mailbox for this event. But even if you don't, any sturdy bag will do. They are collecting all kinds of a non-perishable food items including; canned fruits and vegetables, canned tuna and chicken, dry pastas, peanut butter, can soups, macaroni and cheese, and much more.

Every little bit helps. Even if you just donate one can of vegetables or one box of pasta, CHOW will make sure it goes to someone in need right here in our community.

According to WBNG, 16,000 children in Broome County rely on free or reduced lunches at school. CHOW tries to keep their shelves stocked so these kids and their families can eat on weekends, summer vacations, and even holiday vacations.

The report said that last year, postal workers in Broome County gathered more than 7,600 pounds worth of non perishables during this event, and they are hoping to top that this year.

So please do what you can and help Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday and Broome County.
