Dallas has been diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis. According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, familial adenomatous polyposis is "a rare inherited cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by hundreds to thousands of precancerous colorectal polyps (adenomatous polyps)."

If familial adenomatous polyposis goes untreated, those with it will "inevitably develop cancer of the colon and/or rectum at a relatively young age" and if completely ignored, persons suffering from it often don't live past the age of 42.

Each year, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital treats roughly 8,600 patients. While most of the children are treated as outpatients and several hundred in one of four housing facilities near the hospital, there are at any given time roughly 60 to 80 children who are too ill to leave the walls of the hospital.

No matter where the sick child is treated, whether in a housing facility or inside the hospital, St. Jude knows what it means to them to get mail from others and how fun it is to get mail from strangers. This is where your help comes in and the best part is that you don't have to buy any supplies or even pay for postage.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will once again be handing out Valentine's Day cards to the kids under their care, but there are so many thousands of patients that St. Jude needs our help. This year, you can send a virtual card to a kid at St. Jude.

The process is simple- just pick from one of the pre-selected cards inspired by patient art, type in your own short message, and then St. Jude will print the cards and hand them out. If you'd like to send a Valentine to a St. Jude kid, you can do that here.

If you'd like to do even more and make a monetary donation to the hospital, which never charges the patient or their family a dime for medical treatment, housing, transportation, meals, etc., you can do that by calling 800-372-4999, texting “HAWK” to 626262, or by visiting this link: https://bit.ly/3jpYxkT
