Senator Akshar and Assemblywoman Lupardo Ask For More State Storm Recovery Funds
New York State Senators Fred Akshar of Broome County and Jospeh Griffo of the Mohawk Valley and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica are asking for supplemental funding from the state to help with the local snow removal costs.
The Senators and Assembly members sent joint letters to Governor Andrew Cuomo asking for state funding to cover personnel, equipment, overtime and other costs associated with the local recovery efforts.
The Legislators say the winter storm of historic proportions overburdened many municipalities.
In addition to the costs of physically removing the snow, the Legislators say there have also been volunteer organizations feeding and sheltering individuals and those costs should also be considered by the state.
Meanwhile, the New York National Guard and New York State resources are assisting in the Southern Tier. The Governor has said those resources will stay in the Southern Tier for as long as they are needed.
