The 1980s and 1990s were a great time for me. Maybe it's because times were a bit simpler than they are today. Or were they. Well, at least the way we dressed and wore our hair certainly was different.

So, I thought it would be cool to dig into YouTube and see if I could find any old television commercials from the 1980s and 1990s from local businesses in the Triple Cities area. And I found a few.

Some from businesses no longer here and some that are still going strong. Check them out below and travel back in time to the 1980s and 1990s in the Binghamton area.

99.1 The Whale was a sponsor and hosted the Power Mix Dance Party at Scandals, which was a part of The Woods Nightclub just off the Vestal Parkway, next to WICZ-TV.

Remember when the Metrocenter in Downtown Binghamton featured lots of shops and has a decent food court?

So, where did you shop in the 1980s and 1990s for back-to-school items? The Oakdale Mall, of course!

I remember that huge chair on top of Pa's Woodshed, do you?

As good today as it was in the 1980s. I love Pudgie's Stromboli!

Most of the Whale music library came from Music City when it was on Main Street, Binghamton. Kudos to Bennie Fiacco for 40 years in business!

From a small storefront on Court Street Binghamton to a nationwide sports powerhouse, Dick's Sporting Goods is a Binghamton success story.

If I remember correctly, there were once 13 Giant Food Markets throughout the Triple Cities area. The stores that remain open today have converted to Weis Food Markets.

It all started here. Sadly Endicott-Johnson no longer exists in the Triple Cities area.

Remember speeding around the track at the Northgate Speedway? That was a lot of fun.

Yea, I got hooked into the waterbed craze in the 1980s. And to be honest, I really loved sleeping on a waterbed. Not sure at my age now, that I would be able to get out of one.
