Tax season is here and that, apparently means the incidents of the so-called IRS Scam are on the rise.

Pennsylvania State Police in Susquehanna County say they’re getting reports again of people pretending to be from the IRS threatening residents with legal action if they don’t send money immediately to cover taxes.

Officials say remember the IRS does not call residents or send out e-mails concerning tax business.  No one should provide any personal information, including bank account numbers over the phone and never send payment to the callers.

The State Police in Gibson says the latest scam has a cunning twist.  The Caller Identification software is displaying the Pennsylvania State Police telephone numbers.

Authorities say they, of course, would never solicit money or demand collections from any State Police Barracks.

Anyone getting similar calls are instructed to call State Police or local law enforcement directly.
