The Adirondacks and the surrounding areas here in New York state are known for camping. Since the coronavirus pandemic, the camping season has been up in the air. Slowly, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is starting to open certain campgrounds. Here's what's open and here are the campgrounds that will be opening soon. There is some good news if you like to camp in the Adirondacks and other campgrounds in the area.

According to News Channel 13, this past Friday the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that twenty campgrounds in the Adirondack Park area could reopen for day use only.

There are measures that have been implemented at the campsites because of COVID-19. There will be no walk-up reservations. Department of Health protocols will be followed when cleaning each restroom. Restrooms and showers may be closed periodically for cleaning and capacity will be reduced.

Gatherings at campgrounds will be limited to only household members. There will be no events or campground programs. You will see COVID signage installed throughout the parks. There will be screening questions asked for campers to determine if they have been in contact with someone who had coronavirus or experienced symptoms.

The Catskill Park Campgrounds that are open for day use only are:

On Friday, the New York DEC will open three campgrounds including Lake Luzerne. Then the DEC will open more campgrounds in the upcoming weeks. There will be no additional reservations or walk-in camping for this season.
