Did you know that New York State is the second largest apple producing state in the country only behind Washington? It's true! As a matter of fact, according to the New York Apple Association, “Thirty-one million 42-pound cartons of apples produced by local growers this fall. More than 10 million apple trees grown on 55,000 acres in six major production districts. Six hundred local growers.

Since New York knows a thing or two about apples, the New York Apple Association came up with the idea to launch an Apple Recipe contest. Think you’ve got an award-winning apple recipe? You just might! The only rule when it comes to this contest is that the apples you use to make your pie must be New York grown apples, picked from a local orchard, or purchased from a local grower.

Cynthia Haskins is the president of the New York Apple Association and said,

“New Yorkers love knowing the best apples are grown right here in our own backyard, so we’re excited to host this competition among fellow apple lovers to find some of the best homemade recipes. We want to see all things apples, from pies and bread to soups and quiches to applesauce and apple-inspired entrées. If your recipe is made from our state’s homegrown apples, we hope that you’ll share it!”

If you’d like to enter the Apple Recipe contest, you’ll need to upload a photo of your homemade recipe (don’t forget that it must include the use of New York-grown apples) as well as a short description of the recipe. All entries into the contest must be submitted by 12 p.m. On October 25th.

There will be one grand-prize winner and four runners-up. The grand prize winner will receive a three-day, two-night stay at a B&B in the Hudson Valley region. Included in the trip will be two lunches, two dinners and a mid-size rental car for three days. The four runners-up will win an apple gift box.

What are you waiting for? Submit your recipe today!
