Binghamton Mayor Richard David says the inquiries involving his recent all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas with businessman Adam Weitsman sought to address "fair questions."

The Press & Sun-Bulletin on Friday reported on the travel by David and a group of Weitsman's friends to a recent UFC title fight.

The newspaper story focused on whether the mayor may have breached the city's ethics code by accepting the expensive trip.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said while he may not agree with "the premise of the story," he believed "it's fair to ask those questions."

The mayor said because he's known Adam Weitsman for 20 years, it "just didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary" to go on the trip.

David said he would go on future trips with Weitsman despite the scrutiny generated after the Vegas excursion. He said: "I'm going to be in office for a long period of time and we're going to continue to do things together."

The mayor said he would look into "how to avoid this kind of perception again in the future."

Weitsman answered questions about the trip with the mayor and several other friends on Friday's Binghamton Now program.
