This Sunday, Chris and I picked up our friends Doug and Lisa and went to Cayuga Lake for their annual Bacon on the Lake-in.

We went two years ago and we had a blast, so we decided to do it again this year. Good thing we bought tickets well in advance because the event itself sold out.

It took place this Saturday and Sunday with 14 of the wineries on the lake taking part in the event. Each Winery made a dish that included bacon, or bacon itself, that they paired with one of their many wines.

After you had the sample with the wine that they decided went best with their baking dish, you got to sample three more wines for free at each of the wineries. You also received a recipe book that included the recipes of all the bacon dishes, so you can make their creations at home.

All of them were good, some were great, but we all thought the best one was at Knapp Winery. They had a Spring Pea and Bacon Alfredo. We will definitely make that at some point this year.

Other honorable mentions included Six Mile Creek, which is where we started the adventure, they had a Bacon Gouda Mac and Cheese. Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery made a simple Bacon Scallion Cream Cheese, which tells you all the ingredients you need, and that worked well with the wine they paired it with.

Americana Vineyards made what they called Interlaken Maple Bacon Chocolate Bark with Ancho Chile. If you love chocolate you would have loved that. Long Point Winery served up their Ultimate Potato Soup which was really good as well. It had lots of big bacon chunks inside.

While we were at Swedish Hill, we made sure to stop by and see their pet donkey Doobie. Doobie has a new friend and barn-mate. It's a miniature horse and its name is Sven. You can see Sven in a picture below. However, Doobie was being shy and wouldn't come all the way out of his barn. You can see him peaking around the dumpster below.

If you like wine and you like bacon, make sure you get tickets next year for Bacon on the Lake-in.
