Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Residents with expired or unwanted medications have some more locations to properly dispose of the drugs, keeping dangerous substances out of the wrong hands.

Broome County officials added medication drop off boxes at the Endicott Police Station and the County Office Building.  Boxes had already been available at the Broome County Public Safety Facility and the Public Library on Court Street.

Residents can drop off prescription and over-the-counter drugs, patches and ointments in the receptacles, but needles, liquids and inhalers are not accepted.

Throwing drugs in the garbage or flushing them can cause damage to the environment while keeping medications in the home could open the door for theft of the drugs.

The drop off boxes are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

A $7,000 grant from the George and Margaret Mee Foundation paid for the added boxes.
