Kathy Griffin Loses Endorsement Deal After Backlash To Bloody Trump-Head Photo
Kathy Griffin is hardly finding new fans after sharing an image that finds her holding a bloody rendering of a severed Donald Trump head, and now, the stunt is coming at a cost.
According to Us Weekly, Griffin has lost an endorsement deal with Squatty Potty, a tool that keeps people's feet up while they sit on the toilet that was launched on Shark Tank in 2014. The company first announced its partnership with Griffin earlier in May, but said it can no longer stand behind her.
“We were shocked and disappointed to learn about the image Ms. Griffin shared today, it was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values our company stands for,” a statement issued by company CEO Bobby Edwards reads. “In response, Squatty Potty has suspended its ad campaign featuring Ms. Griffin. We have acted swiftly and decisively to demonstrate our commitment to a culture of decency, civility and tolerance.”
Griffin apologized for sharing the image shortly after it began making rounds online yesterday (May 30). "I sincerely apologize. I’m just now seeing the reaction to these images. I’m a comic. I cross the line. I move the line then I cross it. I went way too far,” she said. "The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue. I ask your forgiveness," she said.
But forgiveness from Trump doesn't seem to be in the cards — the President noted on Twitter: "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"
