A Johnson City woman is headed to prison for two years and has to pay restitution after pleading guilty to preparing false Federal Income Tax Returns.

41 year old Lavyette Garcia will also serve three years on probation following her prison time and paying back $72,452 to the U.S. Treasury Department.

Garcia admitted she knowingly and intentionally prepared and filed 110 fraudulent income tax returns that included fake income levels and tax credit eligibility to qualify for $848,196 in refunds from 2011 to 2014.

While the IRS was able to identify some returns with false information and halt refund payments, some fraudulent returns got through and refunds were issued.  Prosecutors say Garcia kept as much as half of that refund money for herself.
