Crews are busy working on interior details at the $7.5 million complex being built for the Vestal Fire Department near the Parkway Plaza.

Project foreman Wyatt Wyman said things have been moving forward on the new Station 4, which is being built west of Jensen Road.

Upstate Companies of Mount Upton is the general contractor for the 15,000-square-foot fire station.

The new facility will replace the current Station 4, which is located a short distance away on the Vestal Parkway. The original building for that facility was constructed in 1952.

The station is rising on a three-and-a-half acre parcel behind the Kohl's and Target stores. An American Legion clubhouse had been on the site for about six decades.

The property was acquired for $607,000 after the purchase was approved by Vestal voters.

Wyman said the substantial completion date for the project is August 23 and the new building is scheduled to be turned over to the fire department on September 11.

The future Station 4 will have about 6,000-square-feet in additional space compared to the existing station.

After the new station becomes operational, the parkway property where the old station is standing is expected to be listed for sale.

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
