Help for People Affected by Overdose Deaths on Southern Tier Close Up
Those left behind when someone dies of an overdose death face unique challenges but can benefit from support programs.
Appearing on the January 7 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, certified grief counselor, Marie Halecki talks about support groups for adults and children offered by Lourdes Hospital.
Halecki says families often feel guilt and anger following a death but are ashamed to talk about it.
The programs are held periodically during the year. Sessions are Thursdays from 5 - 6:30 p.m. for six weeks but Halecki says participants often form bonds and continue to support each other.
Southern Tier Close Up airs Sunday at 6am on Wild 104.04
