Summer is all sun, surf and sand, right? Well, sometimes we may forget to be mindful of our health, and Bustle explains that there are some concerns that we should look out for in the summer more than any other time of the year.

  • Lyme Disease is incredibly scary, and more than 300,000 people contract it every year with most cases (two-thirds) occurring during the summer months. Flu-like symptoms, rashes, fatigue and joint pain are some of the signs that that you might be infected.
  • Heatstroke can be a serious issue in the summer if you spend your days lounging outside in the sun, but it can also occur if you're inside working in extreme temperatures as well. If you're feeling overheated, are getting severe headaches, having rapid breathing, etc., then you should try to cool down and stop what it is that you're doing.
  • Poisonous plant rashes is something to be aware of when you're outside. Warmer weather gets people outside more frequently than any other time of the year, but take notice of your surroundings and learn about poisonous plants that you might find while you're out in nature.

Pesky bugs and the heat can bring down the fun in the summer, but protecting yourself and making sure that you're aware of the health risks that summer brings can help to make summer fun and safe!
