A Susquehanna County man was shot by state police after he allegedly attacked a person in a Hallstead home.

Authorities say 38-year-old James Lewis of Hallstead has been charged with aggravated assault and simple assault in connection with Tuesday night's incident.

State police say Lewis also faces counts of reckless endangering and terroristic threats.

Investigators say Lewis was wounded when he was shot by troopers outside a Dubois Street residence.

Police were called to the home to investigate a disturbance. Officials say troopers were confronted by Lewis, who was armed with a gun outside the house. They say he was shot by police after he ignored repeated "verbal commands."

Lewis is being treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Police have not described his injuries or revealed his condition.

Troopers found 66-year-old Stephen Esposito inside the residence. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in an assault. His condition was not reported.

Investigators say Lewis will face extradition proceedings to bring him back to Pennsylvania. He's expected to be charged by New York State Police as a fugitive from justice.
