Super Comfy Halloween Costume Idea for Mom-to-Be

You're expecting, what a super exciting time in your life! The year I was pregnant with my son, Halloween fell when I was 6-months along. I was at that point in my pregnancy that everyone told me what a beautiful glow I had but between you and me,  I'm pretty sure they were just saying that because they didn't know what else to say. I got sick in my first trimester and stayed sick right up until the day my son was born. And yet, despite the sickness, I still wanted to dress up for Halloween. We were doing a thing at the office and I didn't want to feel left out of the fun.

The problem I ran into after deciding I was going to dress up for Halloween was that I didn't want to spend a lot of money or be trapped in an uncomfortable costume, so I turned to my friends for ideas and what they came up with was fantastic! If you're looking for a simple, but creative Halloween costume for your pregnant self, I'm not kidding when I say that I didn't spend more than $10 on my entire costume and I was able to buy everything in one place which was a huge bonus because let's face it- pregnancy is exhausting!

At the craft store, I picked up a men's long sleeve black shirt, white iron-on letters, a foam pumpkin, and some fabric glue. When I got home, I laid everything out on my dining room table, and placed the iron-on letters across the chest of my shirt, applying them per the package directions. Then, I used fabric glue to apply the pumpkin to the belly area of the shirt. To achieve the perfect placement, I put the shirt on and then used a safety pin to mark on the shirt where my big ole' baby belly was so I knew exactly where to glue the pumpkin.

On Halloween day, I literally rolled out of bed and took advantage of not having to shower and get dolled up. Instead, I teased my hair and went crazy with volumizing and texturing powder. I dug out leftover Halloween makeup from the year before to transform my face to look like a zombie. The final result? I was a zombie pumpkin smuggler! Get it? Baby...pumpkin...smuggler.

You wouldn't believe how many people stopped me to tell me how much they loved my costume and an added bonus was that I was able to stay comfortable by wearing my maternity jeans and flats. I don't know if I'll ever get to have another Halloween as a baby pumpkin smuggler, but just in case I do- I put the shirt in a protective bag and hung it in the back of my closet.
