Windows in a parked vehicle were damaged when chunks of concrete plunged from the Route 201 flyover near Main Street in Johnson City.

Falling debris from the overpass went through the rear window of a 2006 Toyota Camry. The driver's side of the car's windshield also was shattered. No injuries were reported.

The vehicle had been parked near Endwell and 4th streets. A man who lives nearby told WNBF News he called Johnson City police Tuesday evening after he spotted the damaged vehicle.

Police advised the state Department of Transportation of the situation. DOT crews were sent to the scene Wednesday afternoon.

A reporter observed workers inspecting the underside of the bridge and knocking down loose sections of concrete.

People who live nearby park their vehicles in an unpaved area beneath the flyover.

A small paved parking section is used by patients of the UHS primary care office on Main Street.

A DOT spokesman released a statement indicating "inspectors have determined the bridge is completely safe for travel." The statement said "maintenance crews are working to remove any loose concrete and will take any other necessary steps to enhance safety."
