The fallen police officer’s car is to become a permanent part of the Story Garden at the hands-on children’s museum on Binghamton’s south side.

Village officials voted to donate “a decommissioned” police department vehicle that had reached the end of its useful service to the museum on Morgan Road.  It turns out that car was the vehicle that had been driven by Officer Smith who was gunned down near Wilson Hospital on March 31, 2014 when he responded to a call about a disturbed individual.

The new mission of the vehicle will be to delight and educate children in a new police-station display being constructed by Broome-Tioga BOCES students.

The walls of the new exhibit were raised yesterday.

The new area is expected to be ready for children at the end of May.
