Empty Bowls Help the Hungry in the Southern Tier
People have a chance to get a warm bowl of soup and keep the handcrafted bowl while their neighbors who don’t know where they will get their next meal get a boost during events April 4 & 5 in Broome County.
The annual Empty Bowls luncheons hosted by United Health Services to benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier take place at Wilson Hospital from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 4 and 11:30 to 1:30 April 4 at Binghamton General Hospital.
The donation is $25 with $5 going to the UHS Foundation Stop Hunger Fund and $20 to the Food Bank.
The lunch is catered by Compass Group and the UHS Food and Nutrition department while the handcrafted ceramic bowls, made by local potters at Roberson Clayworks and the Roberson Museum and Science Center serve as a reminder of the people in the Southern Tier who have empty bowls every day.
Since it began in 2005, Empty Bowls events have raised over $47,000 to provide 141,000 meals in the region.
