“Day of Reckoning” for Binghamton Man in Broome County Court
UPDATE: Harris was sentenced to consecutive sentencing amounting to 79 years to life in prison.
A man convicted of manslaughter and predatory sexual assault in separate cases involving children in Broome County is about to be sentenced.
Larry Harris Jr. of Binghamton was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the 2019 death of 11-year-old Jerome Smith in Johnson City.
Harris also was convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child for incidents involving a young girl that occurred over a period of several years.
In addition to the crimes involving children, Harris pleaded guilty to a felony drug count.
Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak says Friday "will be a day of reckoning for Larry Harris."
Harris is scheduled to be sentenced in Broome County Court in all three cases. A judge earlier this month ruled Harris is a "persistent violent felony offender." Korchak says that means he faces at least 25 years to life in prison.
