CPR and AED Awareness Week
The American Heart Association reminds you that June 1 - 7 is designated as CPR and AED Awareness Week and urges everyone to learn Hands-Only CPR. Hands-Only CPR emphasizes two steps. Number one is immediately calling 9-1-1 if you see someone suddenly collapse. Number two is the implementation of Hands-Only CPR in which you push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
In a press release from the American Heart Association(AHA) it is advised that the hard and fast chest compressions be done in accordance to the beat of the popular Bee Gees hit song "Stayin' Alive". Compressions should be done at the rate of 100 to 120 per minute.
Hand-Only CPR can and does save lives. According to AHA statistics 70 percent of cardiac arrests occur in homes. By learning how to perform Hands-Only CPR you could save the life of someone you love. The AHA reports that over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest incidents occur in the United States each year.
