Conditions Worsen at Binghamton’s Front Street “Gateway”

Drivers who use a busy link to downtown Binghamton from Route 17 are experiencing a rougher ride in the aftermath of a recent snowstorm.

The surface on Front Street south of Prospect Street was in bad shape early this month but conditions continue to deteriorate.

Massive water-filled potholes now are prompting many motorists to drive on the wrong side of the street.

Mayor Richard David had said emergency repair work was planned to address the problem.

During a January 8 interview, David said he had heard complaints about the street. He conceded the roadway was in "poor condition" and in need of repair.

The mayor had said the city would seek bids so work could be done. He also said more signs would be put into place to alert motorists of the rough roadway.

David could not be reached Friday to comment on when the repairs are to be made.
