Back it Up: Is Cardi B the Next ‘Catfish’ Detective?
Max Joseph's departure from Catfish after seven seasons might have just left a Cardi B-shaped opening in the MTV production.
According to TMZ, Catfish head honcho Nev Schulman has his sights set on none other than the "Bodak Yellow" rapper as a potential replacement for his longtime partner-in-crime.
Catfish, which premiered in 2012, has followed Schulman and Joseph as they help confused online daters uncover whether mystery girlfriends or boyfriends are the real deal or scheming frauds.
"Max cannot be replaced," Schulman lamented to the site. "But the show must go on, and I am still very passionate about making the show...We are going to look for other people to come on."
"There's a lot of new fun people that we'd love to invite on," he continued. "The show would benefit a lot from a female perspective. The first person who comes to mind lately for her humor and insight would be Cardi B. Obviously I know she's a new mom so she's a little busy, but we could certainly work around her schedule."
Joseph said in a statement published by Deadline that he'll be sad to leave the show behind, but is excited for new opportunities.
“Hey guys, the time has come, sadly, for me to move on from ‘Catfish’. Working on this show for the last seven years has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I’ve learned a lot about myself, my country and human nature in general. Nev and I have become brothers and our bromance has blossomed before your eyes,” he said.
“For a while now I have been straddling two careers as TV host and filmmaker and, while this level of busy-ness is a dream come true, my life can no longer sustain it,” he continued. “With ‘Catfish’ still going strong after 7 seasons, 115 episodes, 31 specials and showing no sign of slowing down, I feel it is finally the time for me to make my exit."
