Broome County Man Accused of Murdering Girlfriend’s Brother in Chenango Bridge
Broome County Sheriff's officials say a man is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend's brother after an earlier argument with the woman.
Sheriff's Deputies were called to an apartment complex at 9 Kattelvelle Road in Chenango Bridge, in the Town of Chenango at around 6:40 p.m. January 14 and found 20-year-old Crishtian Smith-Bartlett on his knees in the parking lot with his hands in the air.
He was detained in the back of a squad car and Deputies went into an apartment where they found 29-year-old Randy Glezen of Lisle lying in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds and a neighbor performing CPR.
A deputy took over the Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation efforts from the uninvolved neighbor until medical crews arrived. In spite of those efforts, Glezen died of his injuries.
Investigators say they determined that earlier in the day, Smith-Bartlett had been arguing with Glezen's 27-year-old sister, who lives in the apartment with her 2-year-old daughter. Glezen and another relative learned about the argument and went to the apartment.
During the confrontation between Glezen and Smith-Bartlett, authorities say the suspect was armed with a machete and hit Glezen with it. After losing control of the machete, investigators say Smith-Bartlett switched to a large kitchen knife and stabbed the Lisle man several times in the abdomen and back. Glezen's sister also suffered an injury to her arm.
Smith-Bartlett is charged with felony counts of Murder and Assault, both in the 2nd degree, and was sent to the Broome County Jail to await arraignment.
