Binghamton’s Clinton Street Bridge to Reopen

Motorists traveling between downtown Binghamton and the First Ward soon will be able to use the Clinton Street bridge.

The 415-foot-long span over the Chenango River was closed to vehicular traffic on August 23. The resulting detour has caused significant traffic congestion on several streets. Pedestrians have been able to cross the bridge while it was off-limits to vehicles.

Construction crews have been working on a concrete bridge deck overlay this week.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Friday. Two-way traffic will be permitted on half of the bridge while rehabilitation work continues on the other half.

Motorists will notice a smooth new surface, a big change from the rough ride they had experienced while using the bridge in recent years.

More work will be done on lighting and decorative arches on the bridge in coming weeks.

The $1.9 million project is expected to be completed in October.
