Binghamton Woman Charged in Store Smash-and-Grab
Police have made an arrest after the glass in a door to a convenience store on Binghamton's West Side was broken in a burglary.
Authorities say 37-year-old Caroline Lewis of Binghamton was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, several hours after the break-in.
Police officers were sent to West Side Gulf at 96 Main Street just after 6:30 a.m. for an alarm. They found the glass in the door had been smashed.
Investigators determined several packs of cigarettes were stolen in the burglary.
A detective said Lewis was found later in the day at her home. She was charged with third-degree burglary for the incident at the store.
Lewis also has been charged with second-degree burglary for an unrelated break-in at a Vermont Avenue home on the city's West Side. Investigators did not reveal what was taken in that burglary.
