Greatest Amount Of Snow Fall In One Day in Binghamton

When we think about the most snowfall, many of us will remember the 44 inches plus of snow that fell in 2020 but that was over a 2-day period. The greatest snowfall in one day in Binghamton was 32.1 inches of snow on March 14th, 2017.

Greatest Amount Of 2-Day Snow Fall In Binghamton

March 14th, 2017 got off to a faster start but Wednesday, December 16, and Thursday, December 17, 2020, set the record for most snowfall in the Binghamton area. What threw many people off was that "only" a foot or so of snow was projected.

I remember going to bed that night when the snow had just begun to fall and couldn't believe how much snow had fallen in only a matter of mere hours. I got up at 2:30 a.m. and the snow was falling at a record pace.

I can't imagine what everyone else thought when they woke around 5 or 6 a.m. Binghamton ended up with a reported 41 inches with Newark Valley (with others getting 44 inches of the white stuff). The previous Binghamton two-day record was 35.3 inches of snow in March of 2017.

Greatest Binghamton Snow Fall In One Season

According to Snowplow News, the greatest cumulative snowfall for Binghamton was 137.8 inches of snow during the year that ended on December 31st, 1993. That year was led by a HUGE snowstorm in mid-March.

On Friday, March 12, 1993, I went to see the Black Crowes at Mansfield University and I was supposed to leave to start a new life in Nashville the next day. I ended up getting snowed in at a friend's house and had to wait until Monday, March 15th to leave for Music City.
