The 33rd Annual Binghamton Heart Cup to benefit the American Heart Association is set for this Saturday, February 17th at 4:30 PM at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  The game precedes the Binghamton Devils versus Rochester American Hockey League game.

A portion of proceeds from tickets purchased through the Binghamton Devils office will be donated to the American Heart Association.  The Heart Cup was started when the Binghamton Whalers were competing in the American League.  Co-Chairs for the first Heart Cup game were John Sullivan representing the firefighters and Dan Correll representing the police.  Both remain active in promotion and support for the game.  Correll continues to serve as the Co-Chair for the police while Sullivan will act as one of the referees for the game. Steve Coffey is serving as the Co-Chair for the firefighters.

Over the years thousands of dollars have been raised from the game to help in the fight against heart disease and stroke.  February is National Heart Month.  Through money raised from events like the Heart Cup progress is being made in preventing and treating heart disease.  Other events coming up in the next several months will also raise funds to help fight heart disease.  The Southern Tier Heart Walk is coming up on Sunday, April 8th at SUNY Broome.  Then on Wednesday, May 9th the Run for Your Heart 5K will be held at the Vestal Rail Trail.
