Canvassing for most of the counties in the district takes place starting November 14 with 1,300 votes separating Brindisi from Tenney and over 12,000 absentee ballots and additional affidavit ballots to be tallied.

The New York State Supreme Court has ordered Sheriff’s Departments in eight counties to secure the ballots, locking down the boards of election in Broome, Chenango, Cortland and Tioga Counties and others.

That means the elections commissioners from both parties must use their assigned key to get to the ballots, which will be counted in front of witnesses, including representatives of the campaigns and lawyers.

The count is open to the public and is being conducted at the Board of Elections Auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Broome County Office Building
