Apartments Planned at Former Binghamton Tire Store

An old downtown Binghamton Goodyear Tire and Service Center may soon become an apartment complex.

The Goodyear facility at Henry and Carroll streets suddenly closed its doors in the fall of 2017.

John and Joyce Judski of Vestal now are seeking city approval to convert the property into a mixed-use building. The project calls for eight apartments with a total of 28 bedrooms.

The Binghamton planning commission has started its review of the proposal.

John Judski said the building has up to 31,000 square feet of usable space. Although some students could reside in the complex, Judski expects non-students also may live in the building.

Judski said the design plans for the project have not been finalized. He said hopes construction work for the building could be completed in less than six months.

Students recently started living in a building to the east of the former Goodyear store. The property at 92 Henry Street - which had housed a notorious "drug bar" known as Begie's - has been converted into a fraternity house.
