Police: Binghamton Man’s Body Found in JC Wooded Area

Johnson City police have identified the remains discovered in a secluded section off Carpathian Hill.

Authorities say the body was that of 42-year-old Shaun Cronin of Binghamton.

The remains were found by village public works employees last Wednesday near Columbia Drive and Fairview Street, a short distance east of the Oakdale Mall.

Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge said a ruling on the cause of Cronin's death has not been made because toxicology test results are not yet available. He said an autopsy did not suggest any suspicious circumstances.

Dodge said no missing person report had been filed. He said it may have been about four weeks before Cronin's body was discovered.

A partial fingerprint was used by investigators to make a positive identification. An acquaintance also identified a tattoo on the man's body.

The police chief said Cronin had sustained no obvious wounds. He said a search of the wooded area where the remains were located turned up no evidence that appeared linked to the death.

New York State Police are assisting Johnson City police in the investigation.
