Four abandoned apartment houses on Binghamton's North Side will be renovated using millions of dollars in state funding.

Mayor Richard David said the project will add 27 apartment units to the neighborhood.

Opportunities for Broome will renovate the city-owned properties as part of the $7.7 million initiative announced Monday.

Most of the money for the planned work is being provided by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. The city will provide $100,000 for the project.

A massive three-story building at the corner of Munsell and Liberty streets is to be renovated. Work also is planned at 22 Moffatt Avenue, 22 Way Street and 4 Sturges Street.

Building interiors will be gutted and asbestos abatement will be performed on the structures. New electrical, plumbing and heating systems will be installed.
