This winter is probably the coldest and most snow we’ve seen in a long time. It’s now March and Binghamton is still seeing snow and winter weather advisories in the forecast!

Like most of us, you may ask yourself when will it ever stop? Is the sun ever going to come back and heat up those chilly temps? Is this sudden mood change in me normal or is it the weather?

According to The Huffington Post, the weather can cause a seasonal depression on your mind and body. Here’s some signs to look for in yourself:

  1. Sleeping in: Are you normally a morning person but find yourself sleeping in? There’s nothing else to look forward to besides going outside and shoveling that heap of snow off the driveway after all!
  2. Lack of passion: The winter weather can decrease your interest in social interactions, things you once loved to do and even your sex life.
  3. Lashing out: You may catch yourself lashing out at your family members for the littlest and stupidest things. For example maybe they didn’t put the dishes away or fold the laundry correctly. Calm down now, they are just trying to help! It may not be perfect but give them a little credit for assisting with the house duties.
  4. Fatty foods: Those salty and fast foods are more appealing to you now more than ever before. During those winter blues, you consume more carbs than any other season.
  5. Energy loss: All the coffee in the world could not replace the energy you had before winter set in.

If you have experienced these signs and symptoms, don’t be alarmed. Know that it’s all part of the winter blues, spring is right around the corner and you’ll be feeling like yourself in no time!
