21 People Homeless in Aftermath of Johnson City Fire
Authorities say nearly two dozen people were displaced by a fire that destroyed a Johnson City house and damaged a neighboring apartment building.
Village fire marshal Bob Blakeslee said Red Cross representatives were called to the scene to help at least 21 people following the blaze.
Thursday's fire apparently started on the front porch of a single-family residence at 13 Elizabeth Street. It extended to a 3½-story apartment house to the south.
The blaze was brought under control after about an hour. Firefighters remained on the scene for several more hours.
No injuries were reported although a pet dog apparently died in the fire.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
