The Twin Tiers are bracing for the latest round of winter weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the region from 1 p.m. January 23 to 1 p.m. January 24 with the potential of up to nine inches of heavy wet snow and sleet and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour.

Forecasters say rain will mix with sleet and snow this afternoon as colder air moves into the region but freezing rain is not the primary threat.

With the weight of the wet snow, there could be issues with power lines into the evening and winds could compound the problem.

Residents are encouraged to limit travel and keep a flashlight, food and water in the vehicle in case of emergency if they do need to go out.
