September is National Suicide Awareness Month and the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier (MHAST) is doing their part to raise awareness. They are offering Mental Health First Aid training at MHAST on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12 at a reduced price.

It goes from 4-8 p.m. each day and you must attend both days to receive certification. They are offering this training for only $25 (normally $90) thanks to funds from Wings of Hope. Get more info and register here.

They are also having their fifth annual Wings of Hope Walk at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point this Saturday, September 7. You can register on-site beginning at 9 a.m. at the South Pavilion in the park and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a release of butterflies.

The highlight of the event is the Remembrance Garden where walkers can make and place painted rocks honoring the memory of loved ones. There will be a candle and shrine area to remember those who have passed.

During the event, there will be refreshments, speakers, music and raffles. Many area agencies will be offering information on services available in our community. Mascots from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and the Binghamton Devils will be there.

You can still pre-register here for a suggested donation of $25 for adults and $15 for students and $10 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
