Wind Trashes COVID Testing Tent/So. Tier Looks Back to Pandemic Start

The high wind on March 7 is blamed for a change in COVID-19 testing at the Broome County Health Department on Front Street in Binghamton.

The wind tore through the tent set up in the parking lot to do rapid testing, bringing an abrupt halt to those operations.  Broome Emergency Services says until further notice, people can pick up home test kits during business hours in the Health Department lobby.

Testing remains an important piece in controlling the continuing coronavirus pandemic, two years into the battle.

The Tioga County Health Department and Broome Emergency Services are among agencies taking a look back over the progression of COVID-19, both posting items on social media.

The Broome County agency has been posting photos and commentary on their facebook page as the date of the first case of COVID in the county approaches.

Tioga County in the weekly Health Department COVID Update on their facebook page posted that “On March 14, 2020 Tioga County saw our first confirmed case of COVID-19. Looking back, it’s truly overwhelming how much we have all gone through over the past two years.” 

The Health Department adds, unfortunately, the community continues to be impacted and residents are suffering from “more severe COVID-19 infections” and losses continue to be recorded.

On a somber note, the post says “There is no way to know what might come next for COVID-19, but our team will continue monitoring the spread of the virus throughout our community.”
