I remember when I was in my early 20s, living away from home, and scraping pennies just to get by. My heart dreaded the holiday season, starting with Thanksgiving.

I'm the oldest of seven and grew up in a huge family where holidays were larger than life. There was always bustling activity and conversation, and amazingly good food and so when I ventured out on my own and wasn't able to afford to get home for the holidays, the silence in my little apartment killed me.

Thanksgiving those first few years that I lived away from home consisted of ramen noodles and Spaghetti-O's. None of my co-workers or friends knew how badly I missed being home for the holidays because I did a good job of pretending that it didn't bother me, but it did.

If you're going to be alone this Thanksgiving or if financial problems are holding you back from buying what you need to make a Thanksgiving dinner, the Whitney Point United Methodist Church wants to help. They want to give you a taste of home, the holidays and remind you that brighter days are ahead.

The Whitney Point United Methodist Church will be serving a totally free Thanksgiving dinner, including all the fixings, and pie and will be offering it for you to take home. The meals will be handed out on Thursday, November 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., but they need to know how many meals to prepare for you to pick up and what time you'll be grabbing your Thanksgiving meal(s) from them.

If you'd like to take the church up on their sweet offer, please note that the deadline to register for Thanksgiving dinner pick-up is Tuesday, November 24 at midnight.  To reserve your dinner, please fill out this form.
